Calculate Your Kicker

Thanks to the work of Republicans in the Oregon House and Senate, individual taxpayers across the state will receive a record $1.071 billion in refunds this year. Although Governor Kulongoski and several legislators have advocated against the Kicker for many years, the average taxpayer will receive more than $600 back in December 2007. These refunds are tax money collected by the state above and beyond what was actually needed to fund the state’s budget.

Refund checks will amount to 18.6% of your Oregon Income Tax for 2006 (before credits).

Here is how you can calculate your kicker refund:

1. Depending on which form you used to file for 2006 go to the line listed below:

Form 40, line 29
Form 40S, line 13
Form 40N, line 51
Form 40P, line 50

2. Multiply the amount from the appropriate line number by .186

Example: $1,000 x .186 = $186.00
